In our Maths learning this week, we are finding out all about different shapes. Today we sung a song to help us learn the names of some shapes and we went on a shape hunt in our outdoor area. Some children were amazing at spotting shapes in the environment and were so motivated to keep looking!
In our provision this week we are: - using cutters of different 2D shapes in our dough area - creating collage pictures using shapes of different materials - threading using different shaped buttons - creating pictures using shape stencils - building with different shaped blocks - working together to complete different shape jigsaws and puzzles. This week our Marvellous Me theme has moved onto learning about our houses. Today we read an information book all about different types of houses around the world. Then the children had the chance to tell us about their house. Some parents had shared photos of their house on seesaw so the children enjoyed looking at these and talking about them at snack time. We learnt the word house, flat and bungalow and we talked about bungalows not having an upstairs.
In our provision so far we have been building houses using different construction materials and some children also made a house using the shapes in the creative area. We have begun to learn about Autumn time today by exploring leaves in our investigation tray. We talked about how the leaves change and fall from some trees and the children enjoyed looking carefully at them through their magnifying glasses. Some of the children were so fascinated that they looked bigger through the magnifying glass! The children talked about their leaves using words: big, small. red, orange, brown, yellow and green. Tomorrow we are going to add some woodland animals amongst our leaves for the children to explore.
