We finished off our computing this term by creating our own castle paintings! The children tried really hard to ensure their pictures were accurate and had to be incredibly precise with their mouse! Once complete, they saved their work independently into their own file.

As part of our 'present' stage for writing, Team JF spent some time with the younger children in CH and read their fabulous pieces of writing to them! The children had produced information texts about a range of sea creatures and as they had tried incredibly hard and were so amazing, we decided we needed other people to hear! This term Team JF have centered their art and DT around the castles topic. They have produced some fantastic shield and castle designs, focusing on the intricate details. As part of their DT project this term, the children have designed and built some amazing castles of their own! This week the children of Team JF were incredibly lucky to visit Bolsover Castle! We started off by walking around the castle grounds, stopping at each point to recognise what the space may have been used for and linking back to the existing knowledge we had from school. As we were lucky enough to have the sunshine, we also found a great spot in the fountain gardens to sketch part of the castle. The children produced some FAB sketches and they had really thought carefully about the detailing in the stone work. The whole of Team JF had incredible listening skills during our trip. They were an absolute credit to Park Street. They followed all instructions first time and made our day the best! Thank you Team JF the adults are VERY proud of you all! This term Team JF have worked incredibly hard exploring the topic 'castles'. We started off at the very beginning to gain an understanding of why castles were built and who was responsible for this! From this, we explored the first Motte and Bailey castles and their features. Then we moved into the newly designed Stone Keep castles. We discussed the differences between the two, why they chose to change the materials they were built from and features of both. As our learning continued and we became experts at castle features, we moved into the roles of castle life. Here we spoke of the hierarchy in those times and how some of the roles were more privileged than others with better conditions! Alongside this, we explored the role of the knights and discovered their responsibilities, armour and how they became important! Finally, we designed and created our own model castles, thinking carefully about the features to include!

This week the children moved on from exploring 2d shapes and into 3d. To begin with, we spoke about the word 3d and what it meant. Here we gained a better understanding of the difference between 2d and 3d. From this, the children were introduced to a range of shapes. They spoke about similarities with familiar 2d ones and also objects made from the chosen shape. As our learning progressed we completed a matching activity with a partner to pair up the shape to its name. As well as this, the children tested their knowledge with a competitive game of ‘snap’ using the cards and a fastest pair to hold up the shape I called. This was a great start to building on their knowledge of 3d shapes. Literacy This week we started our new unit of learning. We decided as we LOVED our previous text 'The Big Book of the Blue' we wanted to continue exploring the ocean and sea creatures. We decided to take a closer look at the ocean, began exploring the conditions of the sea and how plastic is having an impact on the animals. From this, we created posters outlining the problems sea pollution may cause and began thinking of how we could help! PE This week we started our new unit of indoor PE - Cheerleading. To begin with, we discussed this and watched clips of cheers, movements and stances. After that, we went into the hall to carry out our initial assessment before our learning takes place. This week the children continued exploring plants. We started by recapping our prior knowledge using our quick quiz and moved into new learning- identifying and naming deciduous and evergreen trees. First, we spoke about the meaning of those words and gained a secure understanding of them. After that, we started to think about which trees were deciduous and which were evergreen. The children then completed a sorting task to identify the twoMaths
This week we started our new unit of learning. To begin with we started to spot and name a range of regular shapes. From this, we started to look closer at these to spot the differences between shapes. Finally, we worked with a partner to match up shapes to their names. As the week progressed, we moved into identifying shapes using their properties. We counted the sides and vertices of regular and irregular shapes. Literacy This week in literacy Team JF have continued exploring non fiction texts using the book 'The Big Book of the Blue'. As we are going to write our own information texts about sea creatures, we have been skill building this week and started our first draft of writing. Science This week in science Team JF have continued investigating materials. We looked closely at natural and man-made materials. We identified why they were natural/man-made and gave examples of them. We also discovered where the materials came from and objects made from them. |
