This term we have been looking at plants, first we went outside to look at the different types of plants we have on the school grounds. After that we looked at the names of national flowers in the United Kingdom and why these are significant. Team JF then looked at evergreen and deciduous trees and what the differences are between them.

Last week Team JF moved onto a new unit of learning- measurement. To begin with, we used our own rulers to begin exploring what each dash, letter and number meant. From this, we focused on cm. Here we measured the length of items, drew lines of a certain length and solved problems! As the week progressed, we moved into metres. We did the same investigations but also compared the two using < > = symbols.
Over the past couple of weeks, we have centred our learning around the book 'Esio Trot'. After reading the book, we decided to write our own versions from Alfie's (the tortoise) perspective. In order to this we began skill building. We started by exploring features of a story to identify the keys parts we need to include. From this, we focused on setting descriptions and character description in preparation for our own writing. Finally, we started our own story mountains to plan our settings, build up, problem, resolution and ending.
This week Team JF have been exploring different rules that are needed to keep us safe. To begin with we spent lots of time discussing the rules we have in school and at home form this we worked together as a team to identify examples of both. The children then created their own mind maps to demonstrate their understanding.
This week the children of Team JF have started designing our very own under the sea shoebox habitats! The children produced some fantastic designs, thinking carefully about the materials they are going to use and why would be the most suitable.
