Today the children started to explore Spanish! We initially spoke about the country, where it was and spoke about holidays. From this we listened to a Spanish song counting from 1-10. As we listened a couple of times, we started attempting this ourselves listening carefully to the pronunciation. As our learning progressed, we moved into counting ourselves in different ways such as boys, girls and individually! We finished off with a short game where if the English number was called the Spanish number had to be returned and vice versa!

Over the past couple of weeks. Team JF have worked really hard to complete their final independent piece of writing. We decided as we had worked so hard on our writing skills, we would show them off to our new teacher by writing them a letter to all about us! To begin with, we unpicked the features and worked on securing our knowledge of punctuation. From this, we planned what we would like to share and started to write. The letters are amazing and beautifully presented! A huge well done to all of Team JF!
This week Team JF have continued exploring volume and capacity. We initially focused on litre and millilitres. We identified the largest capacity and compared the difference from this, we moved into thinking of everyday objects and how some are more suitable to measure in litres or millilitres. Finally we moved into using the four operations to solve real life problems!
Over the past couple of weeks, Team JF have worked really hard on their design and technology project. To begin with, we planned out models carefully. We designed shoebox habitats and thought carefully about the materials to use. The children created some amazing habitats! They included lots of detail and a mixture and textures. Finally, we evaluated our designs thinking of what we could further improve next time. This week the children completed their independent writing by copying up into their final draft. The children worked incredibly hard to form their letters correctly and use the correct strokes to join. They have produced amazing pieces!
Throughout the month of May key stage 1 have the job of completing maths and reading papers. Team JF were not phased by this and relished the challenge! They were phenomenal! I am so incredibly proud of their effort, determination and resilience throughout this time, what superstars!
The children started a new unit of learning, position and direction. To begin with, we spent time establishing left and right, we practiced this lots of time to ensure we were secure with this knowledge. From this, we looked at a range of pictures to describe their positions using the key vocabulary; above, below, left and right. As our learning progressed, we followed instructions to make different towers using a combination of colours positioned in the right place. We then moved onto looking at squared grids to identify starting points for our counters. From this, we explored moving in different directions and number of spaces to see where it would end. Alongside this, we used grids with different locations to describe a range of routes to reach each destination. As our confidence grew, we worked in partners to give each other instructions to reach different check points. |
