This week, we were given a musical instrument challenge - to design and create our own instrument using our knowledge and understanding of sound, including pitch and loudness. We were given the task of creating something that makes high, low, loud and quiet sounds. We could create any instrument (string, wind, percussion) using junk modelling items. We worked collaboratively to design, make and evaluate our instruments and even had a visit from Miss Fury (Science lead) so that we could present what we had made.

There are some elements that we have not yet covered and we will be focusing on these next half term and also hosting our popular WW1 Day with Mr Fidment. Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan – a Pop Ballad sung by Adele.
Our music unit this half term focussed around one song: Make You Feel My Love. Each week we integrated music games, elements of music (such as pulse, rhythm and pitch), singing and playing instruments. We learnt to sing, play, improvise and compose alongside this song. Each week we also listened and appraised other Pop Ballads. This half term, we have been using 2Logo (Purple Mash) to write code in order to control an on-screen marker, incorporating our mathematical knowledge, in order to draw shapes and letters. Throughout the unit we have:
There were strong links between 2Logo and maths, and it was beneficial to think about our knowledge of angles when creating our coding language. Since September, we have been studying Islam and this is something we will be continuing with throughout the rest of the term (as well as making comparisons to Christianity). We have learnt about:
Next half term, we look forward to welcoming Imam Abdul Aziz (from Barnsley mosque), who will be coming to speak to our team about the faith and bringing artefacts for us to look at. This was our first half term learning Spanish and what progress we have made! We began the unit by locating Spain and Spanish cities on a map, as well as looking at some traditions of Spain and the people who live there. After this, we had a different focus each week, which included:
It's safe to same Team LF that you have done a fab job and have a lot better pronunciation that myself! Maths
This week, we have focussed on the written method for division, dividing numbers with up to four digits by a one digit number. We began with numbers that left remainders and then moved on to taking this across to decimals. We began to apply our knowledge to questions with missing digits and will continue with our reasoning skills next week. Literacy We have spent time this week conducting research into the Archduke's Franz Ferdinand's death and constructing a our plans in preparation for writing. During our reading lessons we have continued to read Private Peaceful and focussed on inference questions, using the point evidence point evidence technique. We have spent the afternoon looking at the significance of the moon in the Chinese New Year. We conducted research and wrote our findings on post-its. Afterwards, we focussed on the Chinese New Year story and created storyboards based around this. |
