Maths
During our lessons we have focused heavily on the times tables, learning tricks to work out multiples of numbers and applying our knowledge to reasoning questions. We have also been busy creating 'factor bugs' to ensure we were identifying all factor pairs of given numbers. We found this challenging to begin with to make sure we identified all factors. However, after a bit of practice and working on a strategy to make sure we had all factors we realised we could do it! Literacy This week we have analysed the features of a diary entry, paying particular attention to the use of dashes to indicate parenthesis, the use of the past tense and the use of ambitious language. Towards the end of the week, we have focussed on the past present tense and the past progressive tense. If you want to know more, ask one of us. We're much better than Miss Garratt at it!

During our lessons this week we have consolidated our knowledge of column subtraction, focusing on questions that contain two five digit numbers, questions that contain a five digit number subtract a four digit number and questions based on decimals. As we had remembered all tips given to us before the holidays we were super speedy. So, we were able to quickly move on to subtracting across zeros. This is something we have found a little more challenging. However, we are persistent and we will master it! Literacy Throughout our lessons this week we have worked on identifying features of newspaper reports. We recognised that quite often sentences in newspapers contain additional information in brackets and we learnt that this is called parenthesis. We were given the task of identifying if brackets had been used correctly and then had to input brackets into sentences of our own. In addition to this, we have been conducting research about Lundhill mining disaster in preparation for writing our own news articles. Today, we were lucky to listen to stories from Mrs Greenhalgh who grew up within a coal mining family. She told us all sorts of information and opened our eyes to a world that is completely different from our own. |
