On Friday 27th September, Team LG took a trip to Whitby as part of their Geography topic. The children and staff took a boat ride on Captain Cook’s Bark Endeavour, walked up the iconic 199 steps and headed to Whitby Abbey itself for an educational workshop led by the Abbey staff. The children experienced what it was like to be a monk by dressing up in costume and handled archaic items such as keys, coins, pots and writing books. Unfortunately, the tide was out whilst in Whitby, which meant we didn’t get chance for a spot of crabbing. However, it did mean we had the time to visit John Freeman’s art gallery instead. The children even got the chance to meet him and ask questions!

We will meet the children at the turning circle at 7:15am, ready for the coach's departure at 7:30am. Thanks, Miss Garratt Maths
This week we have completed the final week of our tables races and what a success it has been! All children have improved their score and time from the first day - great job Team LG! In addition, we have continued with our topic of Place Value, specifically comparing and ordering numbers with up to 7 digits. Literacy We have continued studying The Highwayman and have focused on the language used within the poem. In our writing lessons, we have been acquiring skills that we will need to use when writing our own ghost story. These include: fronted adverbials, suspense and tension and use of speech. Welcome back to Team LG and all the other Park Street children. We hope you have had a wonderful summer and are now feeling refreshed and ready for a new school year. In Team LG, we have already got stuck into our learning and are busy in all subject areas.
Maths We began our three week tables race challenge on Tuesday and the children are making mountains of progress already! We also looked at the relationships between multiplication and division and used our knowledge to generate fact families. Literacy Throughout the week we have focused on our handwriting and revisited nouns, verbs and adjectives. We also used an image of the 'Highwayman' and made suggestions as to what his character and personality are like. |
