Assessment week:
A huge well done to all Team LG members for their perseverance during assessment week. Throughout the week we have completed a total of five test papers (Maths Paper 1, 2 and 3, SPAG and Reading). It has been amazing to see the progress that ALL the children have made since our last tests. I am so proud of their efforts and achievements! This week we have also continued to rehearse for our production - 'Lights, Camera, Action!'. It's great to see the final bits all coming together and falling into place. We are all excited to be performing our dress rehearsal to the school this afternoon. There is a buzz of excitement and a few nerves flying around this morning.

Unfortunately, due to a sporting trip, our scheduled dress rehearsal has been changed to Friday. On Wednesday, the majority of the class are out on a sporting event and therefore it would be difficult to perform to the rest of the school with only half of our cast. Mrs Longden and I have made the decision that it would be better to reschedule and perform our dress rehearsal on Friday instead.
Can parents/carers ensure that ALL costumes are in school by Thursday morning at the latest. Thank you! Interfaith fortnight:
This week we have started to focus on our RE topic, Islam. Firstly, we looked at the founders of the faith and the main countries in which the faith is practised. We then discussed the prophets of the faith and the main beliefs of Islam. Following this we then took a look at the inside of a mosque and identified the key features including: Qiblah, Mihrab, Minbar, Wash Area, Minaret and Prayer Mats. We completed mosque diagrams, labelled the key features and gave a brief explanation about the significance of each feature. During our art lesson with Mrs Fitchett, we have started to design our own prayer mats and are going to continue with this next week. To raise the awareness of the importance of staying safe online, on Tuesday we had a visit from Jane MacDonald (South Yorkshire Police). Jane and her colleague, Diane, came to talk to Team LG about E-Safety.
The presentation was designed to enable us to look at online behaviours and the safe use of the internet/social media sites and phone apps. The presentation was carefully structured to enable us to understand how we should use the internet and social media, what we should/shouldn’t share and who we should/shouldn’t share it with. It also provided the opportunity for us to explore key questions such as ‘How should we use social media safely?’ and ‘How should we act online?’. The presentation explored many of the online sites that some us are currently using and sites that we may use in the future. It also explored concepts such as cyber bullying, trolling, online gaming and online crazes. Maths:
We have had extra support this week in Maths from Mrs Longden. We have split into two groups for our learning but both focussed on similar aspects of Maths. Miss Garratt's group have been looking at equivalent fractions and then converting these to decimals and percentages. Mrs Longden's group have also looked at fractions and then revised the written methods for addition and subtraction towards the end of the week. Both groups have done fantastically well and shown great resilience to learning. Literacy: Following our visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, we completed a shared writing activity in small groups. The challenge was to use descriptive techniques to describe one animal from the park, without mentioning the name of the animal. Our writing was then read to the other groups, who had to guess which animal was being described. The better the description, the easier it was to identify the chosen animal. Other news: This week we have started our production rehearsals (acting, dancing and singing) for our performance on Monday 3rd and Thursday 6th July. We are all very excited and already can't wait to perform to our parents/carers/friends. |
