Since September, we have been studying Islam and this is something we will be continuing with throughout the rest of the term (as well as making comparisons to Christianity). We have learnt about:
Next half term, we look forward to welcoming Imam Abdul Aziz (from Barnsley mosque), who will be coming to speak to our team about the faith and bringing artefacts for us to look at.

This was our first half term learning Spanish and what progress we have made! We began the unit by locating Spain and Spanish cities on a map, as well as looking at some traditions of Spain and the people who live there. After this, we had a different focus each week, which included:
It's safe to same Team LF that you have done a fab job and have a lot better pronunciation that myself! Maths
This week, we have focussed on the written method for division, dividing numbers with up to four digits by a one digit number. We began with numbers that left remainders and then moved on to taking this across to decimals. We began to apply our knowledge to questions with missing digits and will continue with our reasoning skills next week. Literacy We have spent time this week conducting research into the Archduke's Franz Ferdinand's death and constructing a our plans in preparation for writing. During our reading lessons we have continued to read Private Peaceful and focussed on inference questions, using the point evidence point evidence technique. We have spent the afternoon looking at the significance of the moon in the Chinese New Year. We conducted research and wrote our findings on post-its. Afterwards, we focussed on the Chinese New Year story and created storyboards based around this. Today, we took on the pan pipes challenge. We made a set of pan pipes in order to create sound of different pitches, and used this to explain how to change pitch. We noticed that the longer pipes created lower sounds, whereas the shorter pipes created higher sounds. Maths
This week, we have focussed on the formal written method for multiplication. We began the week by revisiting skills learnt last year - multiplying three and four digit numbers by a one digit number. We have then started to progress to multiplying three and four digit numbers by two digit numbers. This is something that we will need to continue working on as we are not quite secure. However, with a bit of perseverance I am sure we will get there. Literacy Throughout our lessons we have continued publishing our poems and have then presented them to one another. We have extended our poetry unit a little further also by looking at riddles and are all excited to share some with our peers. Maths
We have focussed this week on multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We recognised that when multiplying we move the digits in our place value chart to the left and when dividing the digits move to the right. Towards the end of this week we then applied this to our times tables also. Literacy This week, we have planned and written our own free verse poems based on the war. Our aim was to create emotion and imagery throughout, whilst incorporating features of SPAMO. Today, we are going to publish our poems in order to perform them to our target audience. Hello and welcome back. We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Maths This week we have been using our times tables knowledge and working on multiples and factors. We have applied techniques to reasoning questions and been working on our verbal explanations to explain our understanding. Literacy During our writing lessons, we have focussed on the features of poetry, in particular similes, personification, alliteration, metaphors and onomatopoeia (SPAMO). We used 'Beyond the Lines' as our hook for learning and have generated examples of SPAMO based on this video. Within our reading lessons, we began Michael Morpurgo's book, 'Private Peaceful'. We have been introduced to the main characters and been able to use inference skills to explain our thoughts about some of the characters in particular, using evidence to support our ideas. As we come to the end of what has been a very busy term, I would like to wish all Team LF children, staff, parents and carers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all have a much deserved rest and a wonderful two weeks holiday.
Take care, stay safe and I will see you in 2022. Mrs Firth During our Science lesson today, we investigated which material was best in preventing sound from being heard. We wrapped a shaker in a variety of materials (paper towel, paper, clingfilm, fabric, foil) and recorded the sound. We played the recordings and then we then made a judgement as to which material was the best in preventing the sound from being heard. We found that the fabric was the best form of soundproofing as when shook, we could hardly hear the shaker at all. |
