Literacy - Understanding the features of an informal letter. Thinking about writing a letter in the theme of James and the giant peach. Looking at a letter wrote to Cinderella from James to help her deal with her mean family. Looking at contractions, what they are and when to use them in letter writing.
Writing a summer poem for the summer concert. Maths - Weighing and measuring, using scales to weigh 2 items and compare them, writing sentences using lighter than and heavier than. Looking at what a g or a kg is and why. Recording and ordering weights heaviest to lightest. using iPad to place a game to weigh parcels in g's or kg's using whole and half numbers. Science - Designing a healthy fruit kebab or smoothie. Trying some fruit (mango, melon, strawberry, pineapple, banana, tomato and orange) to see what they may like and want to include in their kebabs and smoothies. Releasing our butterflies as part of the life cycle of a butterfly. Learning about the importance of bones and the role they play in our bodies. Cricket - A full afternoon of cricket skills. (See post below) Music - Listening and appraising music Our day will come - Amy Winehouse. Practicing for the summer performance on the xylophones '3 little birds'

In Art Team AC have been working really hard, first we looked at lots of different fruit, vegetables and flowers to find patterns within them. We took time to do some observational drawing concentrating on the patterns we could see, like the circles in the middle of an onion, the segments of an orange or the petals of a flower. Next each child decided on what they wanted to draw and design to go on their board for printing. Then they etched their designs onto their boards carefully. Finally the children painted their boards and printed it to make their repeating pattern. We have some very talented children in our class and when you see our work we're sure you'll agree!
This week in maths we have focused on the weighing part of measure.
Team AC have really been enjoying measure and this week have been using the scales to weigh objects round the classroom and see which object is heavier than or lighter than. We then used the scales to weigh an object and see how many cubes it took to make the scales equal on both sides, this was a little trickier but they worked really well. They also played some weighing games on the iPad to be able to identify weights in kg's. On Wednesday we had a real treat in Team AC. We had a full afternoon of cricket, where a lovely lady came in to show us how to stand, hold the bat, hit a ball. How to bat and bowl a ball. The children had a really good afternoon and learnt a lot of skills. Lots of smiles all round.
Our class pets have made their transition into butterflies, coming out of their chrysalises and drying off their crumpled wings. To become the most beautiful butterflies. We set them free from their net on Monday, when we took them outside they began to flutter and seemed to be excited to be in the big wide world and go and explore. The children were all very excited to see them set free, but quite sad we don't have them to see in our class anymore. They will go on the lay their eggs and that will begin the life cycle again. We all hope Daisy, Rosie, Butter, Sunshine and Jeffrey have a wonderful adventure. Maths - learning about measure in mm's, cm's and m's, word questions about measure and converting measurements.
Measuring each others heights and converting from cm's to metres. Recapping times tables 4's and 6's. Literacy - finishing the story inspired by James and the Giant Peach. Editing their work and making final changes. Writing up their work in their best handwriting. Science - keeping healthy, looking at different food groups and sorting food into groups: carbohydrates, fats, protein etc. Looking at vertebrates and invertebrates. Art - Printing using the blocks they made making a repeating pattern, more about this further down. P.E - Team games, warm ups and practising for sports day. Feel good Friday mile around the field. Music - Lots of practising their songs and playing xylophones for their summer concert.... Its going to be amazing. Some exciting news for Team AC our lovely class caterpillars: Daisy, Rosie, Butter, Sunshine and Jeffrey, have changed into their Chrysalises. A very brave Millie with the help of Mrs Jones put them carefully from the pot to their net (we don't want butterflies on the loose around the classroom). Team AC were all very excited and are keeping their eye on any changes. Who knows we may have butterflies on Monday, we'll keep you posted. In art we have been looking at repeating patterns, we had looked at flowers and also fruit and their patterns and the way they look. We had done some observational drawings and the they put their final idea on a block to paint and print in a repeating pattern. Team AC have really enjoyed this and the results are really quite fabulous. Well done everyone.
Literacy - creating story mountains to help write a story, setting out the beginning, characters, build up and problem. Working from this to start their own story based on James and the Giant Peach. Practicing noun phrases to help children use them in their story.
Maths - Looking at measure, mm's, cm's measuring perimeter, length and width. practicing times tables. Science - looking at what makes you healthy and what we need to stay healthy. Looking at the life cycle of a human and the life cycle of a butterfly and exploring the similarities and differences. Looking at the different baby photos from the children in class to see if they could recognise each other when they were a baby. I.C.T - Cheerleading, practicing races for sports day. Art - Drawing different fruit with detail focusing on repeating patterns. Spanish - Learning the words for family, this week we looked at mum, dad, sister and brother. Music - Practicing songs for summer concert. This half term in Science we have been learning all about humans, animals and plants and what makes them healthy. Part of this has been looking at the life cycles and we have looked at the life cycle of a caterpillar to butterfly. Please welcome to Team AC our 5 little friends. They were named by our children meet: Daisy, Rosie, Butter, Sunshine and Jeffrey. We will be learning more as we go, watching our little friends and seeing what they do. When they are butterflies we will release them for them to carry on their journey and the life cycle making more eggs. Here they are: We will keep posting their progress!
