This week we have been learning about Guy Fawkes and the story of the plot to kill the king, and why we have bonfire night. Team AC took to a bit of acting to help remember the story that they had been learning, what a fantastic bunch of budding actors we have!! The children really enjoyed it and I'm sure they can tell you all about what they've learnt.

This half term we have chosen 4 spelling superstars, these children have worked so hard and got better and better every week, and brought their sentences in from home. Next half term children will be writing some definitions too to help children learn what a word means as well as how to spell it. Keep trying really hard Team AC a huge well done to our spelling superstars and everyone trying really hard with their spellings!
Team AC have been perfecting their beats this week, using clapping and tapping with their hands and playing the glockenspiels to 'we will rock you'. We have learnt lots of music vocabulary like; chorus, verse, beat, rhythm and notes. Team Ac really love their music session we hope you like it too with some pictures and videos below. Team Ac have been embracing Diwali - the festival of light in R.E.
We have looked at what Diwali is and why it is celebrated. All the children have been very interested and really got involved! Some of the things we have been doing are; mehndi hand designs, diyas - a small lamp used for worship, and a Diwali workshop where the children listened to the story of Diwali and learnt a piece of dance to recreate the story, they all worked very hard and picked up the dance moves quickly. Team AC have had such a great time learning all about Diwali. Team AC have been learning all about flowers in science, what parts they are made up of and the jobs each part does.
The children have learnt key words; ovule, pistil, stamen, pollen, petal, leaf and pollination. We have have done lots of work around this, but this week the children had the opportunity to make their very own flower, with all the important parts. Look at their fantastic work. We have been doing a lot of work around autumn in team AC. We have made pictures of things that remind us of autumn, from beautiful colourful fallen leaves. We have started some fabulous autumn poems too, using descriptive noun phrases that the children got really creative with! Well done everyone. Maybe if you go on some autumn walks over the holidays you could tell your grown ups some descriptions of what you can see using your new skills! This half term in P.E we have been learning dance. Children have been working on a creative piece of dance to Firework by Katy Perry. All of the children have been really involved, using their best firework moves and poses, this week we recorded the dance for you all to see the fantastic end product. As well as this each lesson we warm up and cool down using yoga poses and helping us stretch our muscles before we start and calm our minds and bodies when we've finished. This week in music we learnt to play the glockenspiels to a beat.
The children did amazingly at keeping the beat and some played the glockenspiel as others tapped the beat with their hands. Children learnt some musical terms and how we write and read music. Team AC love music, it makes us all feel great, Well done team. Maths: Adding three addends and addition involving bridging through tens. Literacy: Writing a biography for our class author Anne Fine. Did you know Anne Fine (picture opposite) likes to write her books in the bath? She also wrote the book that inspired the film Mrs Doubtfire. Science: Learning about pollination and how insects play a vital role in the reproduction of plants. Spanish: Numbers 1 - 10 review. *Also, don't forget to be checking word of the week on the MFL page. Music: We will Rock You tune on xylophones and singing. Learning about pitch and where certain notes are on the music lines. PE: Katy Perry Firework Group dance - Watch this space for the video upload! Choosing Time: Autumnal Art with Leaves and lots of imagination! Thank you for a wonderful week Team AC! In Science we have been investigating how water moves around a plant. We learnt some very tricky words xylem and phloem, these are the tubes that move water in a plant. The children enjoyed exploring celery lettuce and flower stems looking for the tubes. The celery, lettuce and flower were put in red and blue food colouring overnight and the children we all keen to see the changes the next morning! We found the celery had absorbed the most colour and the blue colouring seemed to be absorbed more than the red. The lettuce was very blue as you can see on the picture. Team AC had great fun while doing some fantastic learning. |
