We have been busy learning about money and time in the past few weeks at school. We have also been practicing our 6x tables and revisiting missing number problems.
Our teachers have asked us to work a lot more straight into our books than on a worksheet so we have had to think carefully about our presentation and how to use the squares in our books to make things look neat. I think you will agree from the pictures below that we have really been focusing on our presentation!

Literacy - Looking at poems such as 'Bed in Summer' by Robert Louis Stevenson and writing Haikus ( a special type of poem). Maths - Learning to tell the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Also learning how many seconds are in a minute, minutes in an hour and other such links between measures of time. Spanish - We started our new unit of work on presenting ourselves. *see separate post above. P.E - Team games to warm up and dodge ball. Cheerleading putting together moves and using pom poms to our awesome crew rap. Music - singing spring songs and practicing Bob Marley - Don't worry, Be happy. We have discussed the difference between beat and rhythm. We have also tried really hard to keep our classroom tidy this week and our equipment organised - well done Team AC! Team AC are continuing with the cheerleading we started before the holidays. Now the children have learnt some key moves and stances they are starting to put together routines. Here are some little videos of the routines they made up themselves today. We already think they are quite fantastic, but we can't wait to see the progress they make as we learn even more and add some music too.
We have been working on ways for our children to extend their sentences when writing, we have been doing this by using co-ordinating conjunctions, see below. Theses are seven words that help connect information in a sentence. We have also started to look at Subordinating conjunctions that join two clauses together for example: "He was annoyed, the train had stopped." "He was annoyed because the train had stopped." Team AC are starting to really understand using these words and will be able to really bring their writing to a higher level. Information below, this is useful if children are writers at home. Literacy - SPAG and focus on co ordinating and subordinating conjunctions, how and where to use them in writing.
Writing cinquain poems about Spring. Maths - Using coin value and maths knowledge to solve problems. Working how much change you would get in number problems using subtraction. Spanish - Recapping our Spanish knowledge of vegetables and extending our learning onto asking for an amount of vegetables in kgs. P.E - Team games to warm up and dodge ball. Cheerleading putting together moves and using pom poms. Art - Making rain sticks. Drawing and colouring animals native to South America. Music - listening and appraising music. This half term we will be looking deeper into music, this week we have listened to Three little birds, by Bob Marley. Children had to say whether they like or dislike the song, what instruments they can hear and if they can identify the type of music. Children will learn how the song is put together: intro, chorus, verse, chorus, verse, ending. Science - Experiments over time to finish off the topic. New topic about humans and animals, we are talking about what the new topic is about and what the children hope to learn about. Welcome back to our Summer term. We hope you had a really lovely Easter holidays and got some rest and did lots of wonderful things making memories.
We are sure there will be as much learning and fun as last term. We have got some bank holidays coming up this half term so please do check the important dates for these. There are year 2 SATS coming up also this half term. Keep checking back here for all the hard work your children do in class. They really are an Awesome Crew! We have come to the end of another term in Team AC and what a fabulous term its been, with lots of learning, creating and fun. We are so proud of all the hard work the children have put in. Homework for the half term is to design and create something to protect an egg from a drop to the ground from a height. This will be used in a science experiment in school after the holidays, you can use materials you may have around the house...tubes, boxes, yoghurt pots, cotton wool the list is endless, we cant wait to see what amazing ideas you come up with. Also we have been working really really hard on our times tables and Team AC are quickly realising that they help with most things in maths! So if you could play hit the button, a free games to play on most devices that would be a great way to keep them fresh in their minds. We have been learning our 2's 5's 10's 3's and 4's. After the holidays we will be looking at our 6's too so they could also get a head start on them too. Team AC love playing this in school also so they should be amazing at it at home too. We hope you all have a fabulous half term break whatever you may be doing. We cant wait to see you all back in April refreshed and ready for our Summer term adventures. TR - My favourite lesson is maths because we are doing money which I really like, I like learning times tables and learning new things.

My favourite teachers are Mrs Crossfield and Mrs Allen because they teach us lots of new stuff. I like maths we've learnt money this week I liked using plastic money to see what adds up to make amounts. I like dictated sentences in literacy too. My favourite teachers are Mrs Crossfield and Mrs Allen because they smile and they're always happy! Maths - Looking at money, what coins and notes there are and their values, how to make amounts, how to make an amount using the fewest coins, adding together coins.
