![]() Last week we dressed up for History day and learnt all about the people we were dressed as. It was a very interesting day and I think we all learnt a lot a lot about people in history that we might not have heard of before. The children looked amazing too, well done to everyone for getting involved. Today we looked at the three main types of soil: Sand, Loam and Clay.
We used magnifying glasses to look closely at the soil samples and this helped us to describe them. We touched the soil to see what it felt like and we even discovered a worm and a millipede in one of the samples proving that soil is alive!! We then carried out an experiment to see which soil type was the most permeable (the best for plants to grow in). We discovered that the loam soil was the most permeable type as it allowed more water to drain through whereas the sandy soil was the least permeable as hardly any water drained through the sample. This week we have started off maths all about shape, looking in to more complex shapes and how they are made up for example straight sides, curved sides, right angles corners the list goes on. We have looked at if you can half a shape and it has to go into equal parts to be a half, this was a little tricky with some shapes but we started to get the hang of it.
Some tricky shape words we learnt are; rhombus, quadrilateral and octagon. Literacy - learning about co-ordinating conjunctions.
R.E - shrove Tuesday and lent. Spanish - learning the Spanish words for vegetables. P.E - starting to learn some moves for cheerleading this half term. Maths - learning equal, half, whole when looking at a shape. Looking at the properties of a shape, sides, corners, right angles. Science - Learning the properties of soil, completing an experiment to see how porous different soil types are. History - History day learning facts about people in history. ![]() On Tuesday we learnt about the reason we have pancake day, or as we learnt about Shrove Tuesday. We found out about why this became something we celebrate and also Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent and what that meant. When Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the dessert. After we did lots of learning we went out on to the field armed with out frying pans and pancakes and did pancake races. All of the children joined in and had a great time. when we went back to class each child had the opportunity to try some pancake, there were some mixed opinions. ![]() As I'm sure you all know from our excited children. On Friday before the half term we had a rock themed day to end our topic. We had amazing rock star outfits, we made rock buns, painted rocks and made 'I think you rock' valentines cards! We listened to rock music and had the most amazing day. Here are a few pictures of our day... enjoy! I think you will agree they looked amazing as did all their rock creations. Well done Team AC we think you rock!!!
This half term we have been working hard to use our bodies to mimic the shapes and movements of certain animals.
Here are a few of our group animal motif sequences. I wonder if you can guess which animals we are? |
