During our independent learning time this week Rainbows have taken part in some team games. This is something that Rainbows love to do and we have enjoyed developing these skills throughout the year.
We enjoyed a taking turn maths game where we had to subitise the dots on cards we pick up and match it to our 10 green bottles on the wall. If we matched the number we could recycle our bottle, and the first to recycle them all won. We also enjoyed playing healthy food bingo. This was more tricky as we had to wait for our turn when playing with a large group. We made sure we watched our friends really well as sometimes they picked up a picture that we needed on our bingo board. The Rainbows had so much fun playing bingo and practising their skills. Here we are taking part in those games and there are also some photos of their other independent learning achievements.

Here are some of our provision activities from this week. Rainbows love their independent learning time and it has been lovely to see their progression from the beginning of the year.
Rainbows are more confident to try new activities, work as a team or with a partner, talk about what they are doing or what they have done and to build their resilience and perseverance when learning is tricky. They take part in activities from each of the seven areas of the curriculum and combine them to further develop their knowledge and skills. Here they are doing all of those things during their provision time this week! Rainbows have been practising their maths skills this week by completing and interpreting graphs.
We have had several questions to answer including what is your favourite fruit? who is your favourite superhero? and who is your favourite villain? Rainbows knew they could only vote once to make the voting fair and dragged their choice to add to the block graph. When the graph was complete the answered questions using the blocks and the numbers on the axis to help them. They could identify the item or person with the most and least votes and how many votes they had, and how many more certain people or items than other ones. They certainly had lots of fun! Rainbows have been using Rekenreks and tens frames to make five in different ways. We are working hard to achieve our Early Years goal by the end of the year and understand the concept of numbers.
We made 5 using different methods and practised saying the two numbers (number bonds) that make 5. We are getting much quicker at recalling the number bonds now and are challenging ourselves to learn some number bonds to 10! Here are some of our children working really hard in phonics to read to their partner. One child acts as the teacher and observes and listens to their partner reading, supporting them to recognise tricky sounds and words, and to Fred Talk to read words. They then swap and take on the other role.
This week before Welly Walk we recapped our learning about Spring and Minibeasts. We used key vocabulary to recall the names of some Spring flowers and some minibeasts and talked about how our environment is changing through the seasons. We also talked about where specific minibeasts like to live and why.
During Welly Walk the children were able to explore independently and enjoyed this child led learning. They created dens, role played different characters, told stories and played games. Here they are listening carefully to their friends, taking turns and having lots of fun! Well done to this weeks achievers! Here are just a few of the Rainbows with their certificates. We have a reading award, 100 dojo certificate and the Golden Book award winner.
Keep working hard, we are so proud of you! This week we have been revising learning about odd and even numbers. We made our favourite number block and identified if they had a flat top (even top.) We sorted the number blocks into odd and even groups and explained why.
We also practised counting in twos to help us identify even numbers and counted past 20! What an achievement! There have been lots of activities this week about healthy eating as our topic for the next fortnight is based on the stories Oliver's Fruit Salad and Oliver's Vegetables.
We have been identifying healthy foods and buying and selling them in our Greengrocers shop. We have designed healthy meals, explored different fruit and so much more. We have been enjoying learning inside and outside developing our skills with our friends. This week we set up our role play area as a team! We have been learning about healthy food and wanted a Green Grocer's shop to help us.
First some of us sorted the fruit and vegetables into groups and we named each one. We learnt some new vocabulary including pomegranate which we had not heard of before. Some children used their phonic knowledge to write some labels for the fruit and vegetables which we stuck on the containers in the shop. We wrote some shop signs and some open and closed signs for our shop as well. We needed some money so we could buy our fruit and vegetables so we identified different coins and sorted them into groups to add to our till. We talked about giving change if we had paid too much. We can count in 2s and 10s and some of us can count in 5s so we added these coins to the till as well. We wrote some price labels to add so we knew how much each item was. What a team effort! We even practised shouting to attract customers to a shop, just like the green grocer at the market! |
