This half term has been a very busy few weeks and the Rainbows have achieved so much. Our topic has been Colour and Light and each week we have focused on a different learning area. There have been special learning days including Road Safety week and Antibullying week and we have enjoyed our Christmas craft afternoon, Christmas party and our AMAZING Nativity performance!
Our learning journey is shown below and every week we add examples of the children's learning and review key knowledge and vocabulary as a team. Our topic next term is "Magical Storyland" and we will be learning about and enjoying traditional tales and fairy stories. Have a look below at all our fabulous learning!

Here are some of the Rainbows who have achieved awards this week. The first is for always following our golden rule "Be kind and helpful." The second is for a drawing competition and our winner came 3rd out of the whole school! What a fantastic drawing and it was all completed independently!
Well done to Diego who won the Winter Art Competition as well! His reward was with Mrs Fitchett and he got to take part in biscuit decorating and a hot chocolate celebration! Well done Diego! Well done Rainbows! We made some reindeer food to sprinkle outside our door on Christmas Eve so Santa knows where to stop and drop off our presents. We had to carefully follow instructions and we tried really hard not to drop any of Rudolph's oats or Christmas magic!
Here we are working very hard and very carefully! The Rainbows have loved learning new songs for Christmas including their Nativity songs and lots of familiar songs with accompanying Makaton signs. They have loved practising Feliz Navidad and even performed one of their Christmas songs in assembly!
They have been using jingle bells to accompany parts of the music and have learnt when to pick them up and play them, and when to place them down. They can sing and play together and join in with a beat. They have even joined in with a glockenspiel and played different notes! Their effort has been outstanding! Today was our Christmas party and included lots of the Rainbows favourite things!
We played some pair and team games which the Rainbows really enjoy including Christmas bingo! There was plenty of dancing, pass the parcel and we also enjoyed playing "corners." Thank you to all the parents that were able to make our Christmas craft afternoon. It was lovely see everyone taking part and there were some fantastic creations! Everyone was certainly in the Christmas spirit!
We hope everyone enjoyed it and we will hopefully organise another event for later in the school year. Some of our objectives this week in maths were to know different ways to make 5 and use what they know about 5 to work out a hidden number.
To help us we have been singing 5 Little Speckled Frogs. When each frog jumped into the pool they went under the water and we couldn't see them anymore. We had to use our knowledge of how many frogs were still on the log, and how many were hidden in the water that we couldn't see. We knew there were 5 frogs altogether and used this to help us work out the hidden number. It was lovely to see some of the Rainbows using the frogs and singing the song independently during provision time to strengthen their knowledge of number bonds to 5. Our learning has been about the Nativity and about Christmas this week. Activities have included making a baby Jesus picture in the creative area by following instructions carefully, retelling the story of the Nativity, developing our motor skills by colouring in wellbeing Christmas bookmarks and Fred Talking to write some Christmas related words. Some of us have enjoyed playing dominoes with our friends. We have been taking turns and have been subitising to say how many dots are on our domino piece. Alongside our enhancements we have access to other resources that are available everyday. You can see in some of the photos how creative we have been and have made presents, phones and rockets!
Here is some of this weeks learning. We have been practising using different question words today to generate questions. Today we chose to ask questions about things that we are interested in, and yes after this week you guessed it, most questions were about Christmas! Here are some fantastic examples we asked Google!
How do jet engines work? (Jude) Why does Santa give presents? (Esme) Why does an elf have so much magic? (Mylah) How does Santa grow his beard so long? (Harper) Why do reindeers have carrots? (Leah) Why do elves make presents? (Myles) Why do cars drive so fast? (Theo) Why does the elf go on the shelf? (Annie) Why does Santa have a red suit? (Violet) How do you wash your hands? (Frankie) How do zips work? (Yousuf) When was Santa born? (Jude) When does Santa use his sleigh? (Hugo-John) When did Santa get stuck up the chimney? (Holly) We asked Google to answer some of these questions and found some very interesting answers! This included that Father Christmas used to wear a green suit a long time ago! Here are just a couple of our children who have achieved awards this week. These Incredible Me! awards are for being a fantastic narrator in our Nativity play and for trying new food at dinner time!
Well done Rainbows! |
