We FINALLY had a sunny day so we could get back out on the field and do some exercise. Before the holidays we ran one lap of the field and have been waiting to get back out there and do two laps!
The day finally came and we rose to the challenge! We talked about facing a challenge and how we can approach it in different ways. We discussed that a challenge for them may be too tricky or too easy for others so everyone can achieve the goal at their own pace. We either walked, jogged or ran to complete our first lap of the field and some of us did a mixture of all three. We sat down and felt our heart beat and talked about the effects that the exercise had had on our bodies. We were raring to go for our second lap and we completed that too! What an achievement! Next time we will aim to complete two laps again, and if some of the Rainbows would like an further challenge they can aim for three laps. Here we are keeping fit and healthy!

Here are just two of our Rainbows that we have celebrated this week. One Rainbow was in the golden book for being incredibly kind and caring to their friends and for being a star in phonics to learn new sounds!
The other Rainbow achieved a special lunchtime award from the dinner staff for always having exceptional manners. Wow Rainbows! We are so proud of you! Keep it up! This week we have been revisiting some of our previous learning to help us recall our number facts fast. We have been doubling numbers and know that to double a number means to add the same number again. We have played a matching game to see if the cards were doubles or not, and worked out doubles using a mirror. We started off the session by recapping numbers that make another number. We matched the numeral card to the Numicon pieces and told our partner which two numbers made that number.
We also practised recalling number bonds to 5 and then 10. We made a bus in our classroom and counted the passengers to start with. When some got off the bus we said how many were left, how many had got off and how many that was altogether. We had lots of fun making 5 in different ways! During our independent learning time this week Rainbows have taken part in some team games. This is something that Rainbows love to do and we have enjoyed developing these skills throughout the year.
We enjoyed a taking turn maths game where we had to subitise the dots on cards we pick up and match it to our 10 green bottles on the wall. If we matched the number we could recycle our bottle, and the first to recycle them all won. We also enjoyed playing healthy food bingo. This was more tricky as we had to wait for our turn when playing with a large group. We made sure we watched our friends really well as sometimes they picked up a picture that we needed on our bingo board. The Rainbows had so much fun playing bingo and practising their skills. Here we are taking part in those games and there are also some photos of their other independent learning achievements. Here are some of our provision activities from this week. Rainbows love their independent learning time and it has been lovely to see their progression from the beginning of the year.
Rainbows are more confident to try new activities, work as a team or with a partner, talk about what they are doing or what they have done and to build their resilience and perseverance when learning is tricky. They take part in activities from each of the seven areas of the curriculum and combine them to further develop their knowledge and skills. Here they are doing all of those things during their provision time this week! Rainbows have been practising their maths skills this week by completing and interpreting graphs.
We have had several questions to answer including what is your favourite fruit? who is your favourite superhero? and who is your favourite villain? Rainbows knew they could only vote once to make the voting fair and dragged their choice to add to the block graph. When the graph was complete the answered questions using the blocks and the numbers on the axis to help them. They could identify the item or person with the most and least votes and how many votes they had, and how many more certain people or items than other ones. They certainly had lots of fun! Rainbows have been using Rekenreks and tens frames to make five in different ways. We are working hard to achieve our Early Years goal by the end of the year and understand the concept of numbers.
We made 5 using different methods and practised saying the two numbers (number bonds) that make 5. We are getting much quicker at recalling the number bonds now and are challenging ourselves to learn some number bonds to 10! Here are some of our children working really hard in phonics to read to their partner. One child acts as the teacher and observes and listens to their partner reading, supporting them to recognise tricky sounds and words, and to Fred Talk to read words. They then swap and take on the other role.
This week before Welly Walk we recapped our learning about Spring and Minibeasts. We used key vocabulary to recall the names of some Spring flowers and some minibeasts and talked about how our environment is changing through the seasons. We also talked about where specific minibeasts like to live and why.
During Welly Walk the children were able to explore independently and enjoyed this child led learning. They created dens, role played different characters, told stories and played games. Here they are listening carefully to their friends, taking turns and having lots of fun! Well done to this weeks achievers! Here are just a few of the Rainbows with their certificates. We have a reading award, 100 dojo certificate and the Golden Book award winner.
Keep working hard, we are so proud of you! |
