Our book this week has been Noah's Ark and we have completed activities based on this story. Our activities have included exploring reflection, experimenting which objects float or sink, mixing colours to paint rainbows, creating collage rainbows, creating repeating colour patterns and retelling the story with our small world characters!
Such a busy week!

Team CW had two entries for the Winter Art Competition run by the School Council. It is lovely to see all the hard work and fun you have had at home with your family!
What AMAZING pieces of art they made! Over the past week we have had a very cheeky elf in our classroom! Rainbows discussed what they would like to call him/her and after a discussion they called him Rudy (short for Rudolph.) Rudy has helped us develop our oracy skills as we have had lots of discussions about why he is visiting, what mischief he has got up to and what we think might happen next. Rudy even disappeared from our classroom! The Rainbows went on an elf hunt and found some rhyming clues to where he might be. They followed the clues and found him hiding on Welly Walk! We wonder what he will get up to next? We heard a helicopter and saw a plane and wondered if Rudy had perhaps travelled in these. We also took the opportunity to explore the winter weather and saw lots of frost on the ground. We looked at the leaves and thought they were very glittery and sparkly and when we picked up the leaves we found they were more rigid instead of bendy. They were really cold too!
Our school golden rule focus this week was "Be honest." We talked about how important it is to be honest so people can help you and trust you. Well done! We are so proud of you!
This week our learning has been about Noah's Ark and we have been learning colours because God made a rainbow at the end of the story. We have also been learning the Makaton signs to accompany them. We learnt three new colours that we had not heard of before; tan, violet and teal when we sang our colour song. Here is a video of us working hard! Today was our Christmas Dinner! There was Christmas music playing in the hall and we all had a cracker! Some of us found it a bit tricky to know how to pull a cracker but we all had a try and received a colourful crown and a Christmas joke.
Our dinner was delicious and we had such a fun time! Here we are tucking in! Today the Rainbows talked about the importance of everyone being different and know that being different makes them special and that is wonderful! They talked about how people like different things, such as unicorns or cars, and how some people aren't interested in these things and that is ok. They looked at how they are different and could identify that some people wore glasses and some don't, some have blue eyes and some don't and they know that it makes us all unique! They know that if everyone looked the same and everyone liked the same things, the world would not be as wonderful and interesting as it is now! The Rainbows know to treat everyone the same and to be kind. We should celebrate being unique and special!
The Rainbows were shown a picture of Rosa Parks and know that she lived in the past. They heard about how hard she fought for equality which means that everyone is treated just the same even though we are all unique! What a special lady! The children have continued to develop their oracy skills by generating questions. First they began by talking to their partner about the things that interest them, then they talked about what they would like to know.
Some of their questions were really interesting and here are just a few the Rainbows generated today; How was a Nintendo made? (Jude) Why is Rudolph’s nose shiny? (Hugo-John) Where do you get flour from? (Mylah) Why do we go to school? (Leah) The Rainbows love finding out the answer to their questions! Here are some Rainbows that have received certificates this week. The first one is for following our golden rule "look after property" and they were awarded the certificate because they always help tidy away, even if they haven't used those resources, and they take great pride in how our classroom looks. The Incredible Me! certificate was awarded for excellent singing and signing when we were practising our Nativity.
Keep it up! What stars you are! Rainbows have been using dice to subitise - without counting the spots they can say the number automatically when it is rolled. They have been introduced to a number track with numbers 1-10. They have been learning to roll the dice and count on the track that number, then roll the dice again and count on that number. The challenge was to land exactly on ten, so if they rolled too many they had to roll again. The Rainbows also had to say the number they landed on, and how many more they needed to land on number ten.
Their extra challenge after the lesson was to work with a partner and try to beat them to score ten first! They had their own colour counter and had to roll the dice, count on that number and beat them to it! As the Rainbows are so confident at turn taking they were able to complete the game! Well done Rainbows! |
