Sir Linkalot (which is a fantastic app to support spelling) is kindly giving all parents and schools free access during lockdown to enable children of all ages (4 years old upwards) to have Sir Linkalot Time at home. There will be a daily midweek 30 minute show online, starting this Thursday at 2 o'clock, on Sir Linkalot's Facebook page and Youtube channel, featuring Countdown's Susie Dent. There are two obvious benefits in using this whilst children are currently learning form home: one, it would most definitely raise their literacy levels and, two, it would make life a whole lot easier for you! It is not solely for spelling, however. It's covering the whole of the technical requirements of literacy, i.e vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns. So, it very much applies to older children as well.
To access the content, you can do this in one of two ways, either downloading via the App Store or on a laptop/PC. Please note, once you have downloaded the app from the App Store (small problem with Androids at the mo), tap on the log icon (for 'Log in') at the top right. You can also view it on a laptop or PC. Type in the browser itself (not a search engine)... app.sirlinkalot.org and follow the above instructions (the log icon is for 'log in'). Further information of log on details will be sent out electronically. Keep up your super spelling :)

I wanted to let you know about a Kickstarter campaign that has been launched. The campaign is the #SeeSportyBeSporty Girls and Sport Poster Campaign. At Park Street, we want to help spread the word to children and parents who might like to support it too. The link to the campaign is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/totallyrunable/seesportybesporty-role-models-posters-of-girls To help, and hopefully spread the message I’ve attached an at-home task and competition. It would be great if we had some entries from our school. If you want to take part in the competition, email or tweet us a picture of your poster and we will send it to Totally Runable for you. ![]()
You may have heard that the government has introduced a new learning platform to support teachers and parents with home learning.
If you want to take a look please follow the link below. https://www.thenational.academy/ It's great to see that many of you have logged on to Charanga and have been engaging in their music lessons. Keep up your hard work.
If you've not yet had chance to log on then not to worry, you could try and make this your aim for this week. If you can't find your username or password then contact me via the form on our class webpage and I will be in touch with your details. Please see some resources you can do at home. You can also find these on the Barefoot Computing website.
Whilst coronavirus is infectious to children it is rarely serious. If your child is unwell it is likely to be a non-coronavirus illness, rather than coronavirus itself. Whilst it is extremely important to follow Government advice to stay at home during this period, it can be confusing to know what to do when your child is unwell or injured. Remember that NHS 111, GPs and hospitals are still providing the same safe care that they have always done. Here is some advice to help: ![]()
Have a look at these exciting Science activities that we found on Twitter. They're all things you can do at home. Some of them are Easter related but it's never too late is it? ![]()
This term, our Science topic is 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Where?' Throughout the term we will be focusing on three habitats - the Mojave Desert, the Indonesia Rainforest and the Arctic - and learning all about the plants and animals. This unit of work covers two key areas, how animals adapt to their surroundings and the life cycle of plants. The whole of the topic centres around us being the producers of a new ITV series, where teachers are sent to these habitats to complete various tasks and activities. As the producers, it is our task to convince Mrs Lawson why she should allow her staff to take part in this brand new and exciting show. The first job we need to do is to think about all the reasons why our selected teachers (Mrs Longden, Miss Baxter and Mr Fidment) would be great participants on the show. We need to identify their character traits and decide what it is about these teachers that would make the show entertaining. Take a look at the document below to see how you could set this out ![]()
Following this, we then need to begin research into the different habitats we are studying. It would be a major task to find out about all three habitats and therefore when completing your research please only select one.
You will need to bear in mind that whichever habitat you choose, you will be working with that 'Team Leader' throughout the term. The leaders and their habitats this year are as follows: Mrs Longden - The Arctic Miss Baxter - The Mojave Desert Mr Fidment - The Indonesia Rainforest You could set your research out as a mind map, as a fact file or a poster for example. Good morning Team LG, I hope you have all had a wonderful two weeks over the Easter period and managed to spend some quality time with your family. It does still seem a bit odd to be restricted to the house and garden but please know that it is for the best and hopefully things will return to 'normal' soon. It also seems very strange to be welcoming you back over the internet as opposed to face to face. Fingers crossed that at some time in the near future we will be able to welcome you back in school and in class. Below, you will see some resources linked to Maths and Literacy for you to have a go at as part of your home learning tasks. Remember you can also visit the White Rose Maths website. I really recommend this website as it gives you a step by step break down as well as online tutorials to watch. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/ I will also post about our new termly topic, which we would have been starting this week.. Keep your eyes posted for some more information about our Science unit of work 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Where?'

https://nosycrow.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Coronavirus_INSwith-cover.pdf This is a really useful and non-threatening way to help children understand why they are spending a little more time indoors recently and not seeing many of the people that they're used to seeing.
