Maths
This week we have completed the final week of our tables races and what a success it has been! All children have improved their score and time from the first day - great job Team LG! In addition, we have continued with our topic of Place Value, specifically comparing and ordering numbers with up to 7 digits. Literacy We have continued studying The Highwayman and have focused on the language used within the poem. In our writing lessons, we have been acquiring skills that we will need to use when writing our own ghost story. These include: fronted adverbials, suspense and tension and use of speech. Welcome back to Team LG and all the other Park Street children. We hope you have had a wonderful summer and are now feeling refreshed and ready for a new school year. In Team LG, we have already got stuck into our learning and are busy in all subject areas.
Maths We began our three week tables race challenge on Tuesday and the children are making mountains of progress already! We also looked at the relationships between multiplication and division and used our knowledge to generate fact families. Literacy Throughout the week we have focused on our handwriting and revisited nouns, verbs and adjectives. We also used an image of the 'Highwayman' and made suggestions as to what his character and personality are like. Maths
Throughout the week we have started to look at angles. We began by learning about degrees of turn and understanding what it meant to do a full turn, half and quarter. We have focused on the different angle types including acute, obtuse, right and reflex and thought about the properties of each one. This led us onto identifying the different angle types through sight recognition and when told the degree of an angle. Literacy Following an email from Miss Grayhurst requesting some examples of descriptive writing, we have identified the features of this genre of writing. We have had a focus on the use of powerful adjectives and verbs, the five senses, expanded noun phrases and relative clauses. Following this, we will be planning our own piece of writing to describe our habitat settings. Happy half term Team LG! I hope you all have a wonderful break but remember to always stay safe whatever you're doing. See you in a week. Miss Garratt

At the beginning of the week we looked at symmetry in shapes using mirrors. We recognised that most shapes have the same number of lines of symmetry as they do sides (e.g. a square has four sides and four lines of symmetry). We then took this a little further and began to look at symmetry of patters across a mirror line horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Literacy We began writing our letters to Mrs Lawson, to persuade her to allow her staff to take part in the new series of 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Here'. We have written an introductory paragraph, introducing the show and then three further paragraphs relating to culture, food and activities in each habitat. Next week, we will finish our letters before editing and publishing in preparation for them being sent to Mrs Lawson herself. Please see the letter below for details of our upcoming trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Tuesday 18th June 2019. ![]()

In the last couple of weeks, we have focused on geometry. We have looked at: Regular and irregular shapes Triangles (equilateral, isosceles, scalene, right-angled) Quadrilaterals (square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezium, rhombus, kite) We considered the properties of these shapes and then used these to classify and compare. Towards the end of each week, we looked at test style questions, using our knowledge to achieve full marks. Literacy We began looking at the features used in persuasive writing. We specifically focused on the features found in all persuasive writing (exaggeration, emotive language, rhetorical questions etc) and this week have tailored this specifically to the features found in a persuasive letter. Once we have analysed these further we will be writing our own persuasive letter to Mrs Lawson. We are hoping that we can convince her to allow staff members to take part in this year's 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Here'. A huge thank you to all Team LG who showed so much enthusiasm in all activities whilst we were on our residential. These included:
